Remembrance Day

My Grandfather was at Gallipoli, and while this poem isn't about Gallipoli, it's about war. In fighting, many brave and terrified boys and men defended their countries, homes, families and all they held dear. While I am a pacifist, I can appreciate their beliefs.

When my grandfather came back from war, he would wake the house at night by screaming and trying to climb the walls and whatever was in his way. I never knew him, I know he was a gentle man though as I've heard many other stories about him. It is sad. I wish everybody just got along.

…anyway I was hunting a poem for the day, and found this poem by Michael Mack, it's called…

Small Pain In My Chest

The soldier boy was sitting calmly underneath that tree.
As I approached it, I could see him beckoning to me.
The battle had been long and hard it lasted through the night
And scores of figures on the ground lay still by morning's light.

"I wonder if you'd help me, sir", he smiled as best he could.
"A sip of water on this morn would surely do me good.
We fought all day and fought all night with scarcely any rest -
A sip of water for I have a small pain in my chest."

As I looked at him, I could see the large stain on his shirt
All reddish-brown from his warm blood mixed in with dirt.
"Not much", said he. "I count myself more lucky than the rest.
They're all gone while I just have a small pain in my chest."

"Must be fatigue", he weakly smiled. "I must be getting old.
I see the sun is shining bright and yet I'm feeling cold.
We climbed the hill, two hundred strong,
but as we cleared the crest, The night exploded
and I felt this small pain in my chest."

"I looked around to get some aid - the only things I found
Were big, deep craters in the earth - bodies on the ground.
I kept on firing at them, sir. I tried to do my best,
But finally sat down with this small pain in my chest."

"I'm grateful, sir", he whispered, as I handed my canteen
And smiled a smile that was,
I think, the brightest that I've seen.
"Seems silly that a man my size so full of vim and zest,
Could find himself defeated by a small pain in his chest."

"What would my wife be thinking of her man so strong,
If she could see me sitting here, too weak to stand alone?
Could my mother imagine, as she held me to her breast,
That I'd be sitting HERE one day with this pain in my chest?"

"Can it be getting dark so soon?" He winced up at the sun.
"It's growing dim and I thought that the day had just begun.
I think, before I travel on, I'll get a little rest…
And, quietly, the boy died from that small pain in his chest.

I don't recall what happened then. I think I must have cried;
I put my arms around him and I pulled him to my side
As I held him to me, I could feel our wounds were pressed
The large one in my heart against the small one in his chest.

Parchment Craft

I may be a little bit slow,
but it's come to my attention that alot of people
are into parchment craft at the moment.

What is it I hear you say…
well let me impart some wisdom on it for you…
(direct from the Pergamano® website, of course!)

Parchment Craft (Pergamano® is the brand we stock) is a fascinating creative hobby. By using various tools and materials on parchment paper you can create wonderful greeting cards, bookmarks, lampshades, mural decorations, realistic flowers, boxes and many other beautiful objects.

Parchment paper is transparent and has a light grey colour in its natural state. Because it is very strong, it can be modelled in numerous ways without suffering any damaging. With the so called Pergamano® mapping pen and Tinta ink, patterns can be traced on the parchment paper. After that it can be coloured with any of the special Pergamano® colouring materials (Tinta ink, Pintura, Pinta-Perla, Perga-Liners, Perga-Colors, Dorso Pastels). You can make decorative borders on your projects by using perforating tools, embossing tools, scissors and other Pergamano® products.

The degree of difficulty of the different colouring and perforating techniques varies and that makes the hobby suitable for beginners as well for advanced Pergamano® enthusiasts.

Mel had a top idea today, which was to photograph some of the items that you can make for Christmas. Either as decorations for your home, or gifty items to give away.

Our friends from Kaisercraft have supplied the ideas, the photos are all from the latest Kaiser Q2 catalogue. So we get none of the credit for them!!! However you will be able to find all the makings for these items at Paper & Stuff…

It's Craft Night this Sat Night…

Hey, I'm sorry for the lateness of this announcement, I have been unwell for the past week and a bit, getting better though, today was my first full day at work this week (yipee!!!), anyway…

…you’re invited to come and play at our Sat Craft Night!
There are only three left for the year.

Simply bring your own craft to do, we have knitters, cardmakers, quilters, scrapbookers, wet felters, people making jewellery, dollmakers, all sorts of crafters playing…

There is a prize draw every half hour… There is free tea, coffee or milo available… We also have a ‘show and tell’ table so you can bring your 'made' treasures to show off… there is also a SPECIAL MYSTERY GUEST, and two lucky people get to make something special with her…

There is over four hours of fun for only $5 from 6.30pm – 11.00pm, or until your eyes close and you need to go home and sleep!… for ages 10 to 110 years old…

The money raised at this night will go to the Southlakes Refuge – a great cause!! venue: Morisset Multi Purpose Centre, 143 Dora Street, Morisset (air conditioned venue)
No need to rsvp, just show up!!

2010 D-I-Y Calendars

It's Calendar time again!! The phones are ringing, so here we go… We have produced our Paper & Stuff Decorate-It-Yourself Calendars for the past 8 years now, and their popularity is still growing!! So thank you to all our lovely customers who have supported us over that time!! And welcome to those who are considering them for the very first time!!

There are four calendar styles available. Our calendars are designed and manufactured in Australia. They are now printed onto a lovely white textured cardstock, it isn't bazzill, but it works very nicely with it. I have posted each style individually below so you can see the merits of each style…

A nice piece of trivia for you, one of my craft ladies decorated one of our calendars, and sent it to Lizzie in England… opps, sorry!! I mean HRH Queen Elizabeth II. I hope that she liked it, and wouldn't that be a top photo opportunity for any scrapbook!! Here is Lizzie with a P&S Calendar…

2010 D-I-Y 8x8 Inch Calendar

The 8x8 Inch Calendar is our most popular calendar out of our range of four calendar styles. Every month has a blank page for you to decorate. The inside cover has all the school and public holidays for each state in Australia. Printed onto 250gsm white textured cardboard and stapled with heavy duty staples. These calendars retail at $14.95 each. Here is a pic of a decorated 8x8 calendar, and here is the cover design for the new 2010 calendar…

2010 D-I-Y 12x12 Inch Calendar

The 12x12 Inch Calendar or Large Calendar as we call it, is actually sized 12x12.5 inch, so that at the end of the year you can cut the spiral off and put the pages in your album!! Designed as a specialty calendar for dedicated scrappers. Every month has a blank page for you to decorate. The inside cover has all the school and public holidays for each state in Australia. Printed onto 250gsm white textured cardboard and spiral bound with a black wire spiral. Last years calendar was a mix of cardstock and paper, and spiral bound with a white spiral. This year we've gone all out and upgraded it totally to only cardstock throughout – and we think the result is fantastic – we have kept the price the same, so they are still $29.95 each.
